Two New Odia Films Hit Theatres Today: Apekhya and Jeevandan

Odia cinema witnesses an interesting cinematic contrast today as two thematically different filmsApekhya and Jeevandan – The Revival—release in theatres across Odisha. While one explores the dark emotional cost of ambition and betrayal, the other takes viewers on an introspective journey of emotional rebirth and resilience.

Apekhya: Love, Ambition and the Shadow of Revenge

Directed by G. Anand Kumar, Apekhya blends romance, drama, and horror into a layered narrative rooted in ambition and emotional trauma. The film tells the story of a young man chasing stardom against his father’s wishes, alongside a village girl whose dreams are crushed by the harsh realities of the film world.

Betrayed and emotionally scarred, the woman returns to confront her past—standing at a crossroads between inner peace and revenge. The film attempts to reflect the emotional cost of fame, broken trust, and suppressed pain, presented through a darker cinematic tone.

Produced by Karakaria Tamnna under Studio 3sixty5 Films, the film features music by Baidyanath Dash, dialogues by Asutosh Barik, and cinematography by Ajit Kishore Das. The cast includes Sarthak Kumar, Subhangi Jana, Choudhury Bikash Das, Pradeep Debata, Pushpa Panda, and others.

With its genre-mixing narrative and emotional intensity, Apekhya aims to offer a commercial yet thought-provoking theatrical experience.

Jeevandan – The Revival: A Quiet Story of Emotional Rebirth

On a completely different cinematic path, Jeevandan – The Revival presents a literary and introspective drama adapted from the novel Prusthayee Pranipath by Radhamohan Mohapatra.

Directed and adapted by Sourav Sarkar, the film explores themes of emotional endurance, memory, and inner transformation, deeply rooted in Odia social and cultural settings. Rather than dramatic conflicts, the film focuses on silence, reflection, and the slow healing process of the human mind.

Produced by Dr. Samapika Mohapatra, the film features cinematography by Somnath Haldar and editing by Abhijit Ghosh. The cast includes Dipesh Samantaray, Swetashree Padhy, Taranjit Khanna, Rakhee Dash, Subash Patra, and Satyanarayan Sahoo.

Jeevandan – The Revival is expected to appeal to audiences who appreciate meaningful storytelling and literary cinema over spectacle.

Two Films, Two Cinematic Experiences

Releasing on the same day, Apekhya and Jeevandan – The Revival represent two contrasting faces of contemporary Odia cinema—one driven by emotional intensity and genre elements, the other by introspection and literary depth.

As theatres reopen to fresh Odia content today, audiences now have the choice between a dark romantic drama and a quiet, soul-searching narrative, both reflecting evolving storytelling approaches in the industry.
