The Odia film and entertainment fraternity came together at Hotel Crystal Crown, Bhubaneswar, on September 27, 2026, for the Filmwalla Odisha Film & Digital Awards 2025 & 2026, with veteran actress Mahasweta Ray’s 50-year journey in Odia cinema becoming the emotional centre of the evening.

Organised under the Filmwalla banner of Master Mind Media Solutions, the grand awards ceremony brought together a large gathering of actors, directors, producers, technicians, media personalities and other members of Odisha’s entertainment fraternity. The event was led by Shyama Prasad Mishra, whose initiative brought together several prominent personalities from the Odia film and digital entertainment industry on one platform.

Mahasweta Ray’s 50-Year Journey Takes Centre Stage

The biggest highlight of the evening was the special felicitation of Mahasweta Ray in recognition of her 50 years of contribution to Odia cinema.

The Filmwalla award backdrop itself prominently carried the 50 Years tribute, placing the veteran actress at the heart of the celebration. Mahasweta Ray was felicitated on stage with flowers and traditional honours. She was also presented with a framed Lord Jagannath artwork and a special trophy during the ceremony. Several personalities from the film fraternity joined her on stage during the felicitation.

The moment carried special emotional significance for the actress. After five decades associated with Odia cinema, seeing members of the film fraternity come together to celebrate her journey made the occasion deeply moving, and Mahasweta Ray was left speechless by the scale and warmth of the honour. The newspaper coverage published after the event also highlighted the special recognition given to Mahasweta Ray for her five-decade journey in the Odia film industry.

Shyama Prasad Mishra’s Initiative Brings the Fraternity Together

While the 50-year milestone of Mahasweta Ray remained the central attraction, the evening also reflected the broader vision behind the Filmwalla initiative. Shyama Prasad Mishra, who spearheaded the event, brought together personalities representing different areas of the Odia entertainment industry.

Filmwalla, under Master Mind Media Solutions, has positioned the platform around films, media, events, film publicity and screening. Its event material also speaks about supporting Odia film producers, expanding audience reach and contributing to the growth of the Odia film industry. The awards ceremony therefore became more than a conventional award presentation. It provided an opportunity for people associated with Odia cinema and the wider entertainment sector to meet, celebrate achievements and discuss ideas for the future of the industry.

‘Cinema Ghara’ Concept Announced

One of the notable ideas discussed during the programme was the “Cinema Ghara” concept, associated with Shyama Prasad Mishra and Manas Subudhi. The concept aims to create an avenue through which Odia film producers can take their films to audiences across villages and different parts of Odisha.

The idea places emphasis on expanding the reach of Odia films beyond the traditional urban theatre audience and creating greater accessibility for viewers in different parts of the state. For an industry that continues to look for new ways to reach audiences, the Cinema Ghara concept added another important dimension to the evening.

A Gathering of Odisha’s Film and Entertainment Personalities

The awards night witnessed the presence of many well-known personalities from Odisha’s film, television and entertainment fraternity, with several of them also receiving awards during the ceremony.

Among those present were Kuna Tripathy, Budhaditya, Tutu Nayak, Gadadhar Putty, Badri Mishra, Bijay Kandoi, Ramesh Barik, Manoranjan Mishra, Seetal, Suryamayee, Poonam, Barsa Pattnaik, Arabinda Jena, Lohitaksha, Pradyumna Lenka, Panchanan Nayak, Prasant Padhi, Sudhansu Sahoo, Priyabrata Panda, Ashok Pati, Aswini Tripathy, Sukant Rath, Abhishek Giri, Sricharan and Sailabhama.

The gathering also included Manas Subudhi, head of Audio Visual Emporium, Debashis Pattnaik, head of Red Swastik, Manas Gadanayak, Additional DCP of Police, and several other personalities associated with the entertainment and social sectors. The photographs from the ceremony show a large group of personalities coming together on stage, reflecting the scale of the gathering.

A Special Presence from Human Sagar’s Family

The evening also had an emotional connection with the family of the late singer Human Sagar, as his mother Sephali Suna was present at the programme.

Her presence added another personal and emotional dimension to a gathering that was centred around the people and families connected with Odisha’s entertainment world.

More Than an Awards Night

The Filmwalla Odisha Film & Digital Awards 2025 & 2026 brought together celebration, recognition and discussion about the future of Odia cinema.

Yet, the defining moment of the evening remained the tribute to Mahasweta Ray and her 50 years in the Odia film industry. The sight of the veteran actress being felicitated in the presence of members of the film fraternity turned the occasion into a celebration of an entire era of Odia cinema.

At the same time, Shyama Prasad Mishra’s initiative through Filmwalla, along with the Cinema Ghara concept associated with Mishra and Manas Subudhi, placed the focus on the future; particularly on creating wider opportunities for Odia films and taking them to audiences beyond the major urban centres. For everyone present at Hotel Crystal Crown on September 27, the evening thus became a meeting point between Odia cinema’s rich legacy and its aspirations for a wider future.
