Keonjhar district is fast emerging as Odisha’s next major tourist hub following the announcement of massive multi-crore development projects by the state government. The ambitious plan includes large-scale infrastructure upgrades and the world-class redevelopment of the revered Maa Tarini Temple, one of Odisha’s most important pilgrimage destinations.
The highlight of the development drive is the ₹312-crore integrated facelift of the Maa Tarini shrine complex, aimed at improving pilgrim facilities, beautification, crowd management systems, parking, and road connectivity. Officials say the project will transform the shrine area into a modern spiritual tourist destination on par with leading pilgrimage centers of India.
Apart from the temple redevelopment, the state government has rolled out multiple projects covering road infrastructure, healthcare centers, drinking water supply, irrigation facilities, and tourism amenities across Keonjhar district. Improved transportation connectivity to waterfalls, hill views, forest trails, and heritage locations is expected to significantly boost tourist arrivals.
