About the Movie
Kanda Mastre is a heartfelt Odia drama that revives the fading cultural tradition of Kandana — a once-cherished wedding ritual of Odisha where brides expressed their grief and emotions through poetic wailing during the bidayi (farewell) ceremony. Set against the backdrop of rural Odisha, the film portrays the emotional depth, cultural identity, and changing social dynamics that led to the disappearance of this unique tradition after the 1990s.
